The Oxfordshire Leaders Joint Committee are running a countywide consultation on the next stage of the Oxfordshire Infrastructure Strategy (OxIS), a strategy that looks across the whole county to identify long‑term, strategic infrastructure needs up to 2050, particularly projects that are not fully funded or are unlikely to be delivered by developers alone.
OxIS focuses on strategic infrastructure — the major systems, services and facilities that support long-term, county-wide growth and wellbeing.
These include:
- Transport – from walking and cycling to rail and road
- Energy and utilities – clean, reliable power and infrastructure
- Water – including supply, quality, and flood prevention
- Health and social care – ensuring access to vital services
- Social infrastructure – such as education and community spaces
- Green and blue infrastructure – including nature recovery, green spaces, and waterways
The strategy also helps fill key knowledge gaps in areas such as:
- Strategic health and energy needs
- Water resilience and quality
- Nature-based solutions like carbon capture and habitat restoration
OxIS sets out priorities across three timeframes:
- Short term: 2025 to 2030
- Medium term: 2030 to 2040
- Long term: 2040 to 2050
This helps plan investment, align with local plans and other policies and ensure infrastructure delivery keeps pace with Oxfordshire’s future.
The consultation period is now open for public comment until 19 March.
You can add your comments, whether you are an Oxfordshire business, individual or part of a wider community group via the Oxfordshire Joint Leaders Committee website.
