We are extremely saddened to announce the passing of our former colleague and friend, Richard Byard.
As many of you will be aware, Richard was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer just over 12 months ago.
Despite surgery and ongoing treatment, Richard’s health took a decline in recent weeks, and he very sadly passed away at his home in Wales, where he and wife Sara had relocated in January 2025.
For well over two decades, Richard was an extremely familiar, popular and friendly face in Oxfordshire and Berkshire, working across a variety of projects and programmes associated with economic development in the region.
As Director of Business Development at Enterprise Oxfordshire (and formerly OxLEP) since 2016, Richard led a number of teams within our organisation and was not only noted for his knowledge and capabilities, but also his wit and dry sense of humour, appreciated by all his colleagues.
Beyond Enterprise Oxfordshire, Richard gave much of his time to excellent and worthy causes, including acting as Chair of Trustees for Green Health Thames Valley (GHTV), promoting mental well-being through horticultural therapy.
Richard leaves behind his wife and partner for over 30 years – Sara, along with Clare and Terry, family and many friends and colleagues from across the UK.
Further details on funeral arrangements will be shared in accordance with the family’s wishes.
Our thoughts are very much with Sara, Clare, Terry, family and close friends at this difficult time.
“All of us at Enterprise Oxfordshire are heartbroken at the loss of our colleague and friend, Richard. His passion for both his work and wider volunteering support for others, made a profound impact on our organisation, and many others. On behalf of everyone at Enterprise Oxfordshire, we extend our deepest condolences to Richard’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” said Helen Brind, Director of Business and Skills at Enterprise Oxfordshire.
